Therapeutic Indications
An artificial male hormone that is also used to treat low red blood cell count (anaemia) and osteoporosis. It also stimulates muscle growth in underdeveloped individuals and in the treatment of protein synthesis disorders, various types of cachexia, trauma, extensive burns following radiation and infectious diseases.
OXI side effects
Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, decreased appetite, headaches, insomnia and diarrhoea, various mood swings, virilisation effects (oily skin, acne, body and facial hair growth, male pattern baldness). Prolonged use of the drug can cause a number of serious digestive disorders, including hepatitis, liver cancer and cirrhosis.
OXY Contraindications/Cautions
It is not recommended in hypersensitivity to the drug, prostate cancer, breast cancer in men, breast carcinoma in women with hypercalcaemia, marked atherosclerosis, nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, liver and kidney dysfunction, acute and chronic prostatitis, pregnancy, lactation. Use of the drug is not recommended in case of pronounced virilisation phenomena in women (voice coarsening, acne, hair growth). Cholesterol level in patients should also be constantly monitored.
